Hi guys, I receive many messages on my Instagram account asking what I did before. This blog post should answer this question and I will simply give you a quick chronological overview. I grew up in a german town and finished school in 2011. Since I was a small kid I dreamed of becoming a pilot and, of course, in Germany, everybody first tries to get accepted at Lufthansa flight school by that time (pilot training will be another blog post). After school, I applied for a voluntary service year. First of all, because I wanted to prepare thoroughly for the Lufthansa tests but also because I wanted to try something new and have a break from learning (by the way: I am a big fan of such voluntary service years after school for everybody ;) In march 2012, I passed the first step of the so-called DLR-test for Lufthansa, three month later also the second step and another 4 weeks later, my initial medical. Afraidly, by that time, Lufthansa introduced the citation jet as a new training plane. As they had to certify all flight instructors to that new plane, many students queued up and waited to continue their training. On top of that, the german pilot union and the Lufthansa management were in difficult talks about Lufthansa's future. For me, this meant a waiting period of unpredictable length. So after my voluntary year ended in summer 2012, I first decided to work for a local chemistry company in my hometown. I worked three-shift and 15 weeks for them. As I did not know what I would like to study maybe or to learn, I thought it was a good idea to gain some experience flying as flight attendant. So I applied for a job at germanwings, started my training in february 2013 and flew 14 month from Cologne through Europe. I also experienced the big relaunch there which was a quite interesting time. In May 2014 finally, I could start my pilot training with Lufthansa in Bremen which I finished in March 2016. Still, another waiting period was due because the conflict between management and pilot union escalated and many strikes occured in this year. Meanwhile, roughly 900 pilot students were waiting for their promised first officer position in a Lufthansa cockpit - some of them for more than 4 years already.

Initially, I flew as flight attendant again but this time for Lufthansa based in Frankfurt and working on the Boeing 747 and A320 family. This was a great experience - great destinations and layovers all over the world with great colleagues (many colleagues from germanwings were also in training for Lufthansa by that time). But we were offered co-pilot-jobs in other companies luckily also. Octobre 2016, I decided to apply for a FO-position at Eurowings Europe which was the first possibility for me to work on a passenger jet and a turbofan plane. My type-rating started in Novembre 2016 and was done in March 2016. That is also the time when I did my first flight with passengers from Cologne to Vienna starting my line training with germanwings based in Cologne again. After passing the final linecheck, I changed to Eurowings Europe, doing the operator conversion in July 2017 and then going to Palma de Mallorca flying for almost 2 years from Palma mainly to German destinations. In March 2019, there was an internal possibility to change to Brussels Airlines to Brussels base on a temporary base. So since April, I am flying for Brussels Airlines through Europe and Africa. Of course, I am still waiting to get a job offer from Lufthansa. We will see what time brings - but I am really looking forward to finally fly for them after seven years of waiting now. Well, yeah, that's my vita. Feel free to comment or ask questions but as I mentioned, I will write something about the training itself soon. Enjoy your weekend!
